A Beginners guide to Chess
Chess for beginners!
Chess is the true battle of the minds. It is a game where both players know all the information on the board. There is no luck, no bluster or deception. Chess is logical. Every move can be calculated and carefully considered.
In this post, I will explain 7 steps to improve your game.
- Learn the rules perfectly. Common rules that are overlooked include:
a. Do you know how each piece moves?
b. Do you know what En Passant is?
c. Do you know how to castle?
d. Do you know how to draw a game? - Learn about Chess Openings.
- Learn the basics of calculating 2 moves ahead.
Then try calculating 3 moves ahead. Then 4. - Every time your opponent makes a move, think:
a. Why did they do that?
b. Is there some trick that they are trying to do?
c. Have they made a mistake which I can exploit? - Remember to focus on the Kings. Keep your king safe, and always go for check mate if thereโs an opportunity.
- Donโt rush! If you see a good move, search for a better one!
- Practice puzzles! Chess puzzles are a great way to improve your logical thinking in chess. They always have a perfect solution, for the exact best move combination to win (or gain an advantage).
